6 Things You Can Do Today to Improve Your Social Media Pages

#1. Put the same profile photo on each social media platform.

Your profile photo is the main photo that represents your company. Chances are that this photo will be either your company logo, or a photo of you (if you run a personal brand).

This is the little photo that is on your social media page, and it is also the little photo that shows up when you comment anywhere, right next to your comment.

The benefit of having your profile photo the same is that it makes you quickly recognizable on any platform. You want to make finding you and interacting with you as EASY as possible!

You want people to see your page, or your comment, and immediately identify that photo with your company.

#2. Make your social media names easy to recognize.

You want your company to have the same name on each social media platform. Now, some social media platforms have character limits, so you may need to be flexible. But try to make your name as similar as possible across all platforms.

You want people to be able to find you and your company as quickly as possible. When you have the same name on several platforms, it takes away any barriers to finding your company on social.

Also, note that this is NOT the time to get “cutesy” with your social media name! Just make it simple, plain, and easy to find.

If you have already made the mistake of naming your social media platforms differently, you can usually edit.

For Facebook – you can edit your username. Note here that the new name has to be similar to the name you had before, and also that Facebook will need to approve the name change.

For Instagram – at this point you can change your handle without a delay or problem.

#3. Edit your “About” information.

There are 2 aspects to this edit.

First – make sure that all of the factual information listed there is accurate. Are your hours correct? Anything that needs to be updated?

Second – work on the wording of your About section. When you tell about your company and what you do, try to use wording that suggests how you solve your customers’ problems.

That sounds abstract, but it’s the tone that we want to use in effective social media marketing. Posting less “about us as a company” and more “about our customers.”

Write a blurb about what you do, and what things you do for your customers. What results will they see from working with you?

As you are editing this information, it can be helpful to realize how the algorithms for each platform actually work! Check out this article from Digital Web Solutions that breaks down the major social media platforms and how to get big results from each.

#4. Link to your social media pages everywhere.

We want people to FIND your pages as quickly as possible! Think of everything you do in your business, and where you can add your social media links.

Could you put them on your website? On your blog? Request an edit to your business card? Include the links in your email signature?

#5. Get inspired by other social media accounts.

Take some time to purposefully search social media pages. Find some social media accounts that have a fantastic following. Try to comb through their pages, play detective and find out WHY they have this great following!

Now, you may look at some pages both in your field, and some completely unrelated to your field. That’s ok! You can even just pull up some social media accounts that YOU like for any reason.

The thinking here is to look at what they are doing on their page. How are they posting? How are they talking about their products? How are they connecting with their audience? Why are YOU drawn to their page?

How could all of this apply to your business? Take some notes about things you want to start incorporating.

#6. Post something personal on your social media page.

People are on social media to CONNECT. Take some time to connect with your people, on your page.

Perhaps you could post a photo and give some insight into your day. Maybe you could go LIVE and share with them something that’s been on your heart. Maybe you just create a post that shows that you care about them.

The point is this – be open, be honest, be genuine. Give your audience the chance to connect with you.

Once you do all 6 of these things, you are now ready to kick back, relax, and know that you are off to a great start on your social media pages!
